S/2234 Antique Treen Fruitwood Salt Box
An attractive well turned Scottish wall mounted or table top cylindrical salt box, many of which were staved, but this example is turned from the solid, having stained black ring decoration, now worn off from the box itself. The interior has a crusty finnish caused by the salt.
These boxes were usually kept by the fire place or on the mantle shelf to stop the salt from becoming damp. The whole has a lovely honey colour and good patination.
