S/3238 Antique Treen 19th Century Dated Icelandic Stained Pine Food Box
A lovely stained pine Icelandic food box dated 1864, in which the haymakers carried their breakfast to the meadows. These boxes were of bowl shaped form, with interlocking bands at the top and base, and having a handle to each side, one of which hinges the carved lid with scroll and leafwork and dated 1864. The whole has an excellent mid brown colour and patination.
