S/3215 Antique 18th Century George III Silver Mounted Coconut Cup

A fine George III silver mounted coconut cup by Peter and Anne Bateman, London 1798, having a coconut carved on all three sides with a central vacant cartouche. It has a silver rim and is raised on three silver shell cast legs. The rim and two legs are hallmarked. Two legs have been repaired and the coconut has two old cracks on the side and base, but is completely secure.

Peter, the son of Hester Bateman (1709-1794), married Anne Beavoir. Their mark was registered 1791-1800, when it changed to Peter, Anne and William Bateman.
