S/1477 19th Century Lignum Vitae Plumb Bob

A lignum vitae sap wood plumb bob, having incised turnings and a brass ring at the top for attaching a plumb line. Lignum vitae superceded all other woods for bobs from the 17th century. The plumb line, descending from the apex, had been used by builders from Egyptian times and was virtually unchanged from the Roman Civilization and Middle Ages.
