S/2056 Antique Treen Georgian Lignum Vitae Pestle and Mortar

A pleasing Georgian lignum vitae pestle and mortar of heart and sap wood, having a protruding lip above a single central band, with a concave moulded base on a vertical incised foot. The shaped pestle is well turned and possibly original to the mortar, but one can seldom be certain. The base has pole lathe turnings, and the whole has a rich colour and good patination.

2 in. (6 cm.) in diameter.
