S/2204 Antique Treen 19th Century Boxwood Man in the Moon Nutcracker

An exceptionally rare and well carved boxwood man in the moon Swiss nutcracker, which hinges with an open mouth with two different indentations for different sized nuts. The features are carved with intricate detail, particularly the teeth, noze and eyes. It is illustrated in 'The Art and Character of Nutcrackers' on page 33. The whole retains a patination.
