S/2410 Antique Treen 19th Century Walnut Fleam Mallet
An early 19th century well turned walnut fleam mallet of usual form, having many indentations showing it was well used. Fleam mallets were used for bleeding horses. A knife was placed against the vein and smartly tapped with a mallet. The blood flow was controlled with a tourniquet. The whole has a good rich colour and patination.
