S/2529 Antique Treen 18th Century Yew Wood Lever Action Nutcracker

An extremely fine Irish yew wood lever action nutcracker, carved with a squirrel on the top eating a nut. The handles have incised leaf decoration and there is an adjustment at the foot by moving a small peg which can increase or decrease the size of the grooved jaws for different sized nuts. The whole is in good condition and has a lovely colour and patination.

See The Art and Character of Nutcrackers by Arlene and George Wagner for an identical example on page 11.
