S/2808 Antique Treen 18th Century Caged Candle Holder

A pleasing rustic 18th century caged candle holder, which were used in stables with the candle contained within a wire cage to stop it toppling over onto the straw causing a fire. The candle is supported in a socket, with a handle to each side for adjusting the height and a hook for hanging. The cage is fitted into a circular turned fruitwood base of a good colour and patination. These stable lights are hard to come by and this example is in good condition with a rustic charm of its own.
