S/3053 Antique Treen 19th Century Rosewood Knitting Sheath

An extremely fine curved rosewood knitting sheath, having inlaid tunbridge ware style decoration, with an oblique ivory slot across the face to take the apron string. A silver inset diamond shaped plaque bordered in ivory and engraved, 'A Wood Born Aug-t 26 1821. The needle end has an ivory diamond and on the back is an inlaid brass heart inscribed J.M. This is the finest quality knitting sheath we have seen, and has a lovely rich colour and excellent patination. It is a remarkable item.
