S/3185 Antique Treen 18th Century Teak Sailmaker's Serving Mallet

A well worn 18th century short handled teak sailmaker's serving mallet, having a concave blade that fitted over the rope, which needed to be sewed to the canvas. The mallet was used to draw tight the spun yarn or sisal hemp. The two parallel grooves are for straining on the yarn. The whole has a good rich colour and patination.
