S/3223 Antique Treen Early 18th Century Burr Oak Candle Box

A good early 18th century burr oak candle box, having a sliding lid and raised thumb piece. The whole is of dovetailed construction. The majority of later candle boxes hang on the wall, but earlier examples often sat on the mantelpiece above fire places. This is a very good example, made of burr oak and has a lovely grain and extremely good original patination.
