S/3282 Antique Treen 19th Century Burr Boxwood Pocket Nutcracker

A good burr boxwood pocket screw type nutcracker of traditional form, having a circular opening to receive the hazel nut. Eating these were a popular pastime at functions and at theatrical performances. The whole has a good honey colour and patination. Similar examples are illustrated in treen for the table by Jonathan Levi page 166.
