S/3322 Antique Treen 19th Century Mahogany Straw Splitter

An early 19th century mahogany straw splitter of battledore shape, having five brass divided circular holes to split straws into different sizes. They were used to make straw hats and bonnets and would divide straws neatly into anything from 4 to 16 even sized splints. The whole has a good rich colour and patination.
