S/6126 Antique Treen 19th Century Well Carved Mahogany Fish Shaped Knitting Sheath
A most unusual 19th century mahogany knitting sheath, carved in the shape of a fish. The detailed head terminates with the needle hole and the back has a flat surface carved to simulate the backbone. It was probably carved by a fisherman or fishmonger in the Northumberland area. The whole has an excellent rich colour and patination.
