S/615 William IV Rosewood Gout Stool Stamped C. Culyer to the Underneath

The rectangular top, upholstered in bordo leather, has a swept back and is raised via two stage hinges and wooden brackets to reach the desired height.

The whole is raised on four small turned feet with brass cup castors each stamped Cope & Collinson Patent Strong and is in good condition, retaining a patination. Written in pencil on the frame: 're-upholstered by E. on top Jan 10th. 1909' and in old ink script the word 'stock'.

Thomas and William Culyer were based in Norwich as chairmakers from 1811-1818 and it is likely this gout stool was made by a descendant or relative of theirs.
