S/859 Early Nineteenth Century Mahogany Writing Slope

The rectangular lid, fitted with brass corner mounts and plaque engraved 'RNB', opens to reveal a brass capped ink pot, a removable pen tray and four further compartments.

The full sized writing surface, lined with black baize, opens to reveal a mahogany lined compartment to each side. The larger of the two has a secret compartment, which is accessed by pressing the inside front edge of the box beneath the removable pen tray.

The whole, fitted with a three quarter length drawer and a locking pin, has a lock to the front, with brass strap work to the corners, and has a good colour, is in good condition and retains a patination.
