S/837 Major ALFRED TALBOT SMITH

These original Pen Drawings were purchased from the family of Major Alfred Talbot Smith, being signed by the artist, the majority of his work having been reproduced in various magazines.

Major Alfred Talbot Smith was the son of Frederick Burgess Smith, a Merchant, who married Marion Long and had three sons and one daughter. He was born in Canton, China, and educated at Whitgift School, in England, he studied Art at Corydon and served in the 1914-18 War.

Alfred Talbot Smith specialised in producing humorous drawings for "Punch" - "The Humorist" - "London Opinion" - "Passing Show" and produced many illustrations for Books and Magazines.

He was a member of the "Press Club" and his recreation was Rifle Shooting. He lived at Flint Cottage, Chipstead, Surrey.
