S/414 Dutch Goncalo Alves Card Table

The quarter veneered top, inlaid with a large patera of boxwood centred by a floral spray oval within a broad satinwood border set with large florettes and husks, and with its outer edge crossbanded in goncalo alves within boxwood stringing, opens to reveal a green baize lined interior, within goncalo alves crossbanding. When opened the top is supported by the two back legs, which swing outwards on double wooden knuckle hinges.

The whole, with the frieze having inlay of chains of husks suspended from paterae, is supported on square tapered legs with spade feet, having conforming inlay and stringing and is a pleasing colour, in good condition and retains a patination.
