S/638 George IV Gillows Rosewood Library Canterbury

The reeded top sides are raised on attractively turned supports and have a generously proportioned turned knob to each corner. The interior is divided into two sections for one's books. Below is a full width mahogany lined drawer fitted with rosewood knob handles.

The whole is raised on well carved bun feet, fitted with brass castors, is in good condition, has a most attractive rich colour and retains a patination.

A similar enclosed canterbury is illustrated in volume 2 of Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840 by Susan E. Stuart on page 92.
