S/606 Victorian Figured Walnut Sutherland Table Stamped: John Taylor & Son, Manufacturer, Edinburgh

The well figured and bookmatched veneered walnut top, with a moulded edge, has two leaves supported on tapered, turned legs, which each swing outwards on a wooden knuckle hinge.

The frame is raised each end on two conforming, tapered, barley twist supports, joined by a central turned stretcher, with the whole being raised on attractive moulded swept legs with scroll toes and white china castors.

John Taylor & Son, Manufacturer, Edinburgh is stamped on the side of the top of one of the legs, which swings outwards to support one of the leaves. The firm was established at 109 Princes Street, Edinburgh and produced fine pieces of furniture during the Victorian period, such as this fine example of a Sutherland table.

The whole is a good colour, in good condition and retains a patination.
