S/1471 17th Century Oak Coffer

An interesting 17th century oak coffer, with a twin panelled lid above three carved arcaded panels to the front and with a carved framework of grapes and vine leaves. The tall stile feet have carved vertical snakes and the solid sides have bifercated legs which conform with the back and base, being of solid single planks of oak. The staple hinges have been replaced with strap hinges at a later date.
