S/2067 Antique Treen 19th Century Sycamore Searce
A Victorian decorated sycamore searce of traditional design in two sections having a metal sieve. The shallow bowl, which screws onto a hollow stem and foot, has a serrated edge and decorated chip carving. The whole has a pale honey colour and patination.
They were used by apothecaries for sieving powders, the fine powders passing into the base leaving lumps and impurities behind.
