S/1874 Antique 16th Century Oak Panel

An interesting oak panel, carved with a diamond design, labelled on the reverse - General A Lane-Fox, South Kensington Museum, London, French circa 1580. The whole has a good colour and patination with small restoration to the corner.

Augustus Henry Lane Pitt Rivers (1827-1900) was an English army officer, ethnologist and Archaeologist. He had an international collection of about 22,000 objects and founded the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford, and his arhaeological collection from the area around Stonehenge forms the basis of the collection at the Salisbury Museum in Wiltshire.
