S/2188 Antique Treen 19th Century Mahogany Knitting Sheath

A fine knitting sheath carved from a single piece of mahogany by Tim Tarn from Middleton on Teeside. This type of knitting sheath is described as the most elaborate, displaying technical proficiency and ingenuity. His work has been described as 'probably the most elegant'. Each sheath is carved in a spiral form with a swivel link chain and has either a two or four prong hook for carrying the weight of the knitting, and has chip carved decoration to the end.
