S/2240 George III Mahogany Tea Chest or Caddy
A good example of a George III mahogany tea chest or caddy, having its original red velvet lined lid with a central brass carrying handle, that opens to reveal three original tin lidded containers for tea and with a compartment behind for a bombilla or caddy spoon. It is fitted with an original brass escutcheon, lock and key. The base is raised on a protruding stepped plinth with shallow cut out bracket style feet. The whole has a good mid brown colour and patination.
