S/2411 Antique Treen 19th Century Mahogany 'Mermaid's Tail' Knitting Sheath

A good 19th century mahogany 'mermaid's tail' knitting sheath, having a curved and graduated tail with chip carved decoration, simulating scales. It ends in a rectangular section with a groove to fit into the cow band or belt, and has a hole at the end for the needle. The whole has a pleasing colour and patination.
