S/2727 Antique Treen 19th Century Crumb Brush

A beautifully made crumb brush, having a carved wood handle. The stiff bristles are stitched into the hollow of the handle. These were used to brush crumbs from the table cloth, after a meal, into a scoop called a crumb tray. Normally these were made of silver or silver plated with ivory handles. It is an unusual folk art item and retains a patination.
