S/2934 Antique Treen Georgian Goncalo Alves Fescue

A rare goncalo alves tapered fescue, having incised line decoration. The tip is spliced and whipped with waxed cord in the traditional manner. Goncalo alves is a Brazilian hardwood with a most attactive grain as in this instance.

Fescues were pointers in schools for teaching children their letters, particularly in a dame's school. This lovely example is a serious collector's item, having a lovely rich colour and patination.
