S/2944 Antique Treen 19th Century Welsh Signed and Dated Mahogany Knitting Sheath

An extremely fine and elegant double ended signed and dated Welsh mahogany knitting sheath, having a central angled clip for the cow band (apron string). It has lovely fine detailed chip carving on all four sides, with twin open divided lanterns with a ball in each. On one side is carved J. BASSON JENY 20 - 1821, which is above a sun. It has a rare feature in that it is double ended, and has a fine small hole each end for the needle. The whole has a good medium colour and original patination.
