S/3166 Antique Treen 18th Century Lignum Vitae Coffee Grinder

An excellent mid 18th century baluster lignum vitae open coffee grinder, for use in the kitchen having a fixed handle. Ones with folding handles were also used for travelling, with the handle folded in half housed in the base. The open cup at the top is for feeding in the beans. The centre unscrews to reveal th metal grinder, which is in full working order. It has an extremely good colour and original patination, a fine well turned example awaiting a discerning buyer.

A similar example is illustrated in Treen for the Table by Jonathan Levi page 119.
