S/3467 Antique Treen 18th Century Fruitwood Butter Cup

A good 18th century fruitwood butter cup, which is actually a measure, as in recipes it states 'take a cup of butter', hence the foot, which like a flummery mould, is used to hold to bang it on the table to release the contents. They are quite rare, as with extensive use they became cracked and broken, and like a lot of treen thrown on the fire. There are a few selective old historic worm holes, as is only to be expected with early fruitwood items. The whole has a lovely rich colour and excellent patination.
