S/3586 Antique Treen Boxwood Sailmaker's Rope Tightener or Cleat

An extensively well used and worn boxwood sailmaker's rope tightener or cleat, giving the feel and appearance of an aged item. It could be 17th or 18th century or even earlier. It is impossible to date accurately, but is a lovely tactile piece of great character, and we feel it is of English origin. Boxwood is extremely hard and the amount of wear makes this a most interesting and exciting item, with a good patination.
