S/3601 Antique Treen 19th Century Spalted Birch Decanter Coaster

An interesting circular spalted birch decanter coaster, having vertical grained sides, an incised line with a reed and a protruding band. The interior has a circular inlaid star decoration in rosewood, boxwood and birch, within three circular incised lines. Spalting is wood colouration caused by fungi, and is much prized by cabinet makers.
