S/3215 Antique 18th Century George III Silver Mounted Coconut Cup

A fine George III silver mounted coconut cup by Peter and Anne Bateman, London 1798, carved on all three sides with a central vacant cartouche. It has a silver rim and is raised on three silver shell cast legs. The rim and two legs are hallmarked. Two legs have been invisibly restored by a silversmith and the coconut has two old cracks on the side and base, but is completely secure.

Peter, the son of Hester Bateman (1709-1794), married Anne Beavoir. Their mark was registered 1791-1800, when it changed to Peter, Anne and William Bateman.
