S/3753 Antique Treen 19th Century Mahogany Tapered Ell Rule

A solid mahogany tapered ell rule, having a turned handle and grooved lines for measuring cloth. Until the early 19th century, the ell rule was a common measure for cloth on the continent. In England it was officially 1.15 yards and in Scotland 37.2 inches.
