S/3917 Antique 17th Century Lidded Jewellery Casket

An exceptionally rare 17th century lidded jewellery casket, having a one piece lid with two iron strap hinges and centred with a carved flower head. The lid opens to reveal a vacant interior to one side, opposite a hinged lidded compartment. The box retains its original iron lock plate and key hole and is seated on a shallow angled foot. The box itself appears to be carved from the solid, as there does not appear to be any joins to the corners. The iron hasp has been missing for a considerable time, as the whole has a lovely crusty finish and excellent patination throughout.
