S/4062 Antique Treen 18th Century Mahogany Dated and Initialled Knitting Sheath

An attractive dated and initialled mahogany knitting sheath, having a horizontal cut out for the cow band, and of square form. The whole is chip carved and punched with various designs, with a carved cross on all four sides at the needle end to ward off evil. On one side it is carved with initials A.S. and dated 1779. It has a pleasing colour and retains a patination.
