S/4072 Antique Treen 19th Century Birch Washing Bat

A well used carved, initialled and dated Scandinavian birch washing bat of traditional form, having a protruding shaped handle with a carved flower head, that is above the curved bat, which is carved with three flower roundels with diamond and sharks tooth decoration. It is carved and dated on a central horizontal panel A.R. 1848 E.O.D. The sides have a deep groove, with very faint remains of red paint decoration here and there. It is an excellent example, which shows a lot of wear and use and retains a pleasing patination.
