S/4126 Antique Treen 18th Century Carved Boxwood Snuff Box

An exceptional 18th century carved boxwood snuff box, having a wooden hinged lid carved with a full sized man and woman at a table. She is turning towards him and her hand is moving his hair from his ear, so that he could hear her voice. The rounded back has King David playing his harp and Moses holding the ten commandments, all encompassed by a seated lion. His tail is curled over his back, his mane and face is beautifully carved with an open mouth showing his teeth and his tongue licking his nose. It has minimal remains of original paint in various areas and the interior has partial remains of silver foil. The whole is in excellent condition, and has extremely good colour and patination, as often found in early boxwood pieces.
