S/4136 Antique Treen 19th Century Boxwood Cased Wax Jack
A rare and most interesting boxwood cased wax jack, having a fitted removable top that reveals the waxed taper, known as a snake, coiled within the interior. This protrudes through a hole in the top and was used as a candle to melt sealing wax when sitting at a desk. The top has a milled edge and is above a most attractive spiral turned centre section, which is fitted to a shaped circular bone base. The whole has a lovely honey colour and good patination.
