S/4194 Antique Early 19th Century Horn Butcher's Snuff Box

An extremely interesting shaped horn butcher's snuff box made in three sections. The bone lid, with a metal and open bone ring handle, is riveted to a wooden base fitted to the box, which has a carved inscription, 'PREVOST BOUCHER A LIANCOURT OISE' on one side, while on the other is a well carved standing man holding a butcher's implement in front of a horned bullock. The interior is like the lid, riveted to a wooden base.

Oise is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4th. 1790. It was created from part of the province of Ile-de-France and Picardy, and is part of the current region of Hauts-de-France and is situated 35 km north of Paris. It is surrounded by the dapartments of Somme, Aisne, Seine-et-Marne, Val-d'Oise, Eure and Seine-Maritime.
