S/4230 Antique Treen 19th Century Tunbridge Ware Go to Bed
A good Tunbridge ware go to bed, having an octagonal body. The whole, inlaid with geometric patterns, has a screw lid and bone finial to receive the match. The underside of the base has concentric circles to provide friction to light the match. These go to beds were used to light the way, instead of using candles, which were expensive. They were also used on the desk for melting sealing wax when sealing letters. The whole retains a patination.
