S/3574 Antique Treen 19th Century Lignum Vitae Coffee Grinder or Mill

A most attractive early 19th century lignum vitae screw threaded three section coffee grinder or mill, of most appealing form having divided reeded turnings throughout. It is of traditional design in well grained heart and sap wood. The top section with an acorn finial, unscrews to reveal the spindle for the folding handle, which can be housed in the bottom section for travelling. The grinding steel mill is in working order and is housed in the base of the second section. The whole is in good condition and has two minor closed shrinkage cracks to the upper part, and a small chipping to one of the reeded turnings. It has lovely grain, colour and patination.
