S/4228 Antique Treen 19th Century Tapered Staved Container

An unusual tapered container having alternating staves in sycamore, alder and ash, which have become darker by probably steeping the wood in a peat bog. As there is an absence of feathering in the interior, it is held by three thin riveted brass bands. The whole has a pleasing contrasting colour and retains a patination.
