S/4234 Antique Treen 18th Century Lignum Vitae Bilboquet

A rare beautifully and intricately carved 18th century Georgian lignum vitae bilboquet, also known as a cup and ball. It was popularised in the late 16th century in France by Henry III and it became a craze with all classes of the population throughout the world. The aim is to swing the ball into the cup, which is more difficult than it looks. This is the first lignum vitae one we have had, as they are mostly made of boxwood and are Victorian in period of all various sizes. The whole retains a patination.
