S/4239 Antique Early 20th Century Sikes Hydrometer in its Fitted Box

A complete sikes hydrometer in its original velvet lined fitted mahogany box, having a bone inset plaque which reads Sikes Hydrometer Dring and Fage, makers to H.M. Customs and Excise of the United Kingdom and Colonies &c. 56 Stamford St London. They were a well regarded firm established in 1790 and trading until the 1960's. The contents comprise of a weighted bulb and scale, with a set of ten numbered and graduated brass weights, a glass container, small magnifying glass and bone backed thermometer. Hydrometers were used to determine the specific gravity or heaviness of liquid alcohol. It is rare to find a complete set with nothing missing.
