S/4247 Antique Treen 18th Century Rush Nip Holder

An extremely good example of a mid to early 18th century rush nip holder, having a twist work support and u shaped arm holding a faceted or polyhedron counterweight. It has spoon shaped jaws and a medium sized rivet. The original ash base can be considered excellent with a fantastic crusty patination, and is square with canted sides and corners. It probably is from the Merionethshire area of central North Wales. Please note it can stand vertical, but if turned around it leans to one side.
