S/4396 Antique 17th/18th Century Steel Striker

A 17th/18th century steel striker, for striking against a flint to obtain a spark for lighting a fire. To do this a tinder box was used, to house the striker and flint in a small end compartment called the fire box. These flints are often lost, so if you have a tinder box and no striker, here is an opportunity to obtain one to complete the item. This was discovered while excavating and is an interesting dog design, with a hinged loop to probably hang from a belt.
