S/4457 Antique Treen 17th Century Charles II Sycamore Mortar

An extremely rare Charles II sycamore mortar, from the last quarter of the 17th century, having a double conical shape that is most appealing. The base when held down firmly with one hand, leaves the other hand to use the pestle, now lacking, for grinding purposes. It has a good sturdy base as one would expect, and a lovely historic shrinkage commensurate with its age of approximately 350 years. It is an amazing and most important piece of treen, and has a lovely pale colour and exceptional patination.
